I rented that movie, thinking it might be similar to one we saw clips of at Hope (scientists talking about faith/discussing the existance of Jesus), but boy was I wrong! That movie made me angry because it was NOT a documentary, but moreso a chance for Bill Maher to belittle others for their beliefs (and then not let them even defend themselves). The only thing I gained from Religiosity was a headache!!

I actually really enjoyed the film. It gave the me the chance to analyze my beliefs against his comments and find out if my beliefs were strong enough to withstand it. Plus some things in the movie were a little ridiculous.

Right on. Well said, bro. I agree with you. I am finally at a point in my faith where I can be comfortable saying, "I don't know" to a question… Being a Christian is not about having all the right answers. We aren't a worldview, we're a countercultural movement.

What do you think inspires someone like Bill Maher to make a movie like this?

Good question! Here's what I've got,

      maybe…

      - He is really and truly searching for answers about God. (It's unfortunate that he chose such extreme people as sources of information). He did get to travel to some really cool places, though (I'd love a trip to Jerusalem!).

      - He is trying to illuminate his beliefs that people have become more consumed with the traditions/ nitpicking the "small stuff" of religion instead of looking at the bigger picture

      - He is making an attempt to get people to ask themselves "WHY?", to question their faith

      - He knows religion is a hot topic that people feel passionately about, so why not stir up the pot a bit, & make a movie that people either love or love to hate.

(For the record, I am not anti-Bill Maher.. I do like his show, but it just makes me cringe a bit when he goes into his spiel on religion). : )

Romans 1…God's given us enough to know about His existence .
I think this guy is a jerk, but I'll be praying for him.

Id like to see the film but haven't yet. I read in a review how the point was basically to mock the ridiculousness of some of the proponents of the faith and he himself admittedly cut out the more intelligent responses that he received to his questions. At least he's honest I suppose…I feel sometimes that the earnestness and lack of irony in a true believers manner does scare non-believers sometimes and so their most comfortable response is to laugh…its an easy target…
