Those were some great questions and discussions. I was really interested in the last question about whether or not God allows bad things to happen to good people. I really found myself disagreeing with Mac's answer that since God gave us free will, then He doesn't allow anything, we just put ourselves in situations where things happen. If we accept that line of reasoning, then is God no longer responsible for the good things as well? If I find just the right job at just the right time, is that also because of the situations that I have?

I agree more with the idea that God allows these things to happen to help teach us and He uses the resulting anger and hurt to push us forward in our faith and understanding. I know in my own life, I can look back and see how there are multiple bad things (breaking up with ex-girlfriend, losing job, having financial problems) that further down the line lead to something even greater than I had before.
