Gaga Shows Grace
Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist crew aren’t Lady Gaga fans. They recently showed up in St. Louis to protest Gaga’s Arch City show:
The anti-gay protesters from Westboro Baptist Church stood outside the Scottrade Center over the weekend, where they picketed the pop star/gay rights activist’s ongoing Monster Ball Tour with signs reading “God Hates Lady Gaga.†Angry at Gaga’s outspoken support of gay rights, the protesters denounced Gaga for using her art form to teach “rebellion against God.â€Â
Members of the Westboro Church have protested the “PokerFace†powerhouse before, but when parishoners brought their controversial views to her live show, Gaga fired back.
How did she fire back? With Twitter. And with grace. From Gaga’s Twitter feed:

Who, then, showed the heart of Christ? Westboro Baptist (whose exploits are well documented) or Lady Gaga? Reminds me of a story I know. Something about a priest, a pious man and a Samaritan….

I'm not even close to being a Lady Gaga fan… showing up to a yankees game like she just rolled out of bed half dressed, i think, puts her about on the same level as Kanye West ripping the mic out of Taylor Swift's hand. Certainly her lyrics are less than admirable too. But I'll have to hand it to her on this one… she handled this with style and grace. I'm not sure why God allows Westboro Baptist to continue to exist and defame His name like that… maybe it's just show the rest of us how not to act? I don't know but it's not at all the way Christians, if you can even call them that, are supposed to act.
Lady Gaga stands up for gay people while Christians attack them. And no, Im not just talking about Westboro Baptist Church. Christians are attacking gay people by trying to take their legal rights away. Even the author of this blog has said he would vote to strip gay couples of the very legal protections that he shares with his wife, leaving behind the burden of inequality and discrimination in the name of allegiance to God.
The world needs more Lady Gagas (and less Christian bigotry).
The truth is found in the strangest places
go, gaga, go.
nevetsman, be carefull when grouping all gay right antagonists as “christians”. Iam a christian, and i whole heartedly believe that gaga was more christlike that these savage church members. Although i dont agree with gays and there choices i agree that its their choice to make, and i dont judge them. Just love them. West boro has a right to protest whatever they want, so that the constitution can be maintained. But end the end, they are nothing but biggets and hate mongers that dont represent my religion. Only one man can do that.
Well said Lupatus. Being gay is not a choice though.
I have clients and co-workers who have different ideas on life to me. Its not my job or role in life to judge them or make them feel bad, but to love them as they are. Sometimes I'm told stories in an effort to shock me, sometimes I'm told in confidence. It is a great privelage to be spoken to in confidence when someone is afraid of the reactions of others. I'm not a fan of Lady Gaga's music, but I am a fan of her attitude of grace to those who were expressing 'opinions' different to hers.
I'm no fan of Westboro, but there's not much 'grace' being exhibited when she refers to them as “criminals” and says they're “violent and dangerous.” Last I checked, Westboro members aren't very bright and their view of Christianity is distorted beyond all recognition but I don't recall them engaging in violence and their numbers are so low to call them “dangerous” is silly. Clearly, the only reason people know they exist is because of their extremism.
That is the best way to finally get rid of the hatemongers of WBC…if we ignore them, stop giving them media coverage, and do not show that they are having an affect they will slowly disappear. A bully only picks on people to gather attention. Once that attention is lost and people ignore the bully he/she loses interest in picking on people. The only way to get rid of WBC is to ignore them completely until they realize no one cares/is listening to their hate-filled message! It's organizations like this that give religion a bad name, and every person of every religion should join in the cause to rid our world of people spreading hate, not love. WBC is a “christian” terrorist group (and I only use christian because they pretend they are christian when every other Christian knows that God is actually weeping knowing that someone could twist his message in such a hate-filled way).
Lupatus, do you think gay couples deserve the same legal rights and opportunities that straight couples have?
So thinking someone is wrong in doing something means you are attacking them? It also means you hate them?
