Commercials You Pay to See

This ad for Pepsi debuted at the 2009 Superbowl. It features Bob Dylan and Will.I.Am juxtaposed as leaders for their respective generation:

Why am I willing to place an ad for a multimillion dollar company on my blog?

Because it’s creative. It’s artistic. It captures my imagination:

  • It doesn’t tell me about the benefits of drinking Pepsi.
  • It doesn’t tell me how cool I’ll look when I drink Pepsi.
  • It does not tell me what Coca-Cola doesn’t have or how expensive it is (*cough* Microsoft *cough*).

The ad gives me a canvas to work with and lets me draw my own conclusions as to what Pepsi means to me. Brilliant.

If only these types of commercials, were used more often!

Absolutely. I love commercials like that. It's so cool to see how commercials have changed through the years. Some are better and some are much worse. This one is pretty sweet though.

Love the angle Pepsi took on this. Starting to look more like Coca-cola inspired ads (in hay day) and not so much knocking on on its competitor like it use to. Didn't Pepsi buy-out Coca-cola?

    Artistic? TRUE, as in!
How I wish every TV commercial is like this instead of doing some brand x and this brand comparison and all that.

But oh, I still like coke though. Pepsi is just so sweet for my taste. Does that mean, this ad didn't work? LOL!

      Good point!

I think you can still like Coke because your decision is based off experience and preference, as opposed to brainwashing. If you think about it, most advertising is code for "indoctrination."

      Way to use creative thinking!
