OK, something went wrong with my earlier comment… For some reason, it won't let me reply directly to your earlier comment, Justin, that this is the only video with the little African American girl in it.

I clicked on two other YouTube videos from the series (Hallelujah & the Prodigal Son), and each of them had an African American kid in them. In fact, one of them might have been this same little girl. Not sure.

Just FYI. While the crew of kids may not be as diverse as we'd like, at least they didn't bring the girl in JUST for the rap song.

Anytime you can teach kids about Jesus it is a good thing! We agree on this.

HOWEVER…

Children may not think within a context of culture as children, but as discerning adults we have to ask what this is embedding into the minds and hearts of our little ones.

Wht is the glaring observation? Simply put, all African-Americans can rap. As children watching this program, there is a subtle message being conveyed that could potentially contribute to fortifying stereotypes and racist attitudes farther down the line.

I would have much rather preferred either seeing a more diverse cast or having a Caucasian child do the "rap." This was too glaringly stereotypical to overlook!
