5 Things Being a New Parent Will Teach You

of50332442

I’m a new parent. These are some things I’ve learned having a one-week old that I helped create:

1. Being a parent requires a profound sense of self-sacrifice.

2. Baby toots make me laugh. My son takes “crop dusting” to a whole new level.

3. Guys, when you have a baby with your wife, you will fall in love with her more.

4. Sleep, at least in the beginning, comes in interchangeable segments, not blocks.

5. I never thought the day would come where I got excited about breast milk. That day is here.

Are you a parent? What’s something you might add to the list?

I was and still am very happy when my children have bowel movements. I know they are getting what they need to eat!

I felt like everyone wanted to tell me how to do things which drove me nuts until I learned to be upfront about the way we were doing things.

One of the things I learned (or gained rather) was a better understanding of how God loved me. When you hold your child in your arms, caress them, kiss them and just adore them, that's how God feels about us to like the trillionth power.

I also learned that the transition from the odorless little yellowish squirts of poop during breast-feeding to sewage like muck that comes out when they start on jarred foods is like going from a room sprayed with Febreze to a port-a-john.

Now that mine are older, I treasure those first moments even more than I did then (esp with your firstborn). I remember just feeling this whole new level of love and protectiveness than I ever thought possible. I've heard people say that it gives us a glimpse of how much God loves us as His children…and they' were probably right. Congratulations Justin and Kerry! Enjoy!

When your bundle of joy is screaming and flailing around, and doesn't know if he/she is hungry (or for what). All the while you are holding her and letting her know its going to be all right. That gave me a glimpse of the father heart of God. That sometimes we are "flailing babies", not knowing what we want, and He still loves us.

All I know is that I am thirsty for that Pepsi in the background.

I fell in love with my wife and God all over again! Love and miracles all wrapped into one baby package!

Being a parent makes you look at the entire world differently. It made me love other people more, and become more aware of what others might be going through on a daily basis.

Love the picture, it looks like you guys gave him a crew cut already!

    peace

    Congrats!

The big things I've realized… I'm more patient than I give myself credit for and I have realized how much I value private time in the restroom. Little ones follow you everywhere!! :-)

The second your child is born you realize – at that moment – how much unconditional love you have inside your heart for someone else.
